But when you try to use this pen drive and you face the error that this pen drive is write protected and you can’t access this. So today I am sharing this post in which I have listed all the possible ways to remove write protection from pen drive.

Sometimes ago I have also faced this problem but I hadn’t  thought about looking for any problem and I solved it somehow. But today I am not going to do that thing. I am going to share all the methods to solve this problem.

Methods To Remove Write Protection From Pen Drive

Below I have shared all the methods and you should follow all the steps so that you you wouldn’t mess up with this thing. You can try these one by one and check which works for you.

1. Using Registry Editor

In this method you need to make some changes and access registry settings. Follow the below steps one by one and check if it works for you.

  1. Press CTRL+r and enter “Regedit” without quotes. This will open the registry editor.
  2. Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > StorageDevicePolicies and enter. If there is nothing like StorageDevicePolicies then open notepad and paste this code “cd\
    reg add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies” /t Reg_dword /v WriteProtect /f /d 1″ without quotes and save the file as new.bat (The file should be saved with .Bat extension).
  3. Now double click on “Write Protect” and in the appeared box enter value as 0 and press OK.
  4. Now disconnect your Pen drive and restart your computer and then connect the pen drive again. Now you have removed write protection from your pen drive.

This method works most of the time. Because by using this method you will reset the write protection value to 0 and by doing this the write protection has been removed from en drive.

2. Using Command Prompt

If the above method is not working for you then you can try this method. As defined using above method we have edited the registry settings and set the write protection value to 0. Now using command prompt we will reset the value. This is very simple than the above method.

  1. First open command prompt from the start menu.
  2. Now type “DISKPART” and hit enter. This will open a new window.
  3. Now type “ListDisk” and press enter. This will show some settings.
  4. Now type “attributes disk clear “readonly” this will clear the write protection.

Using this method you can clear Read only attributes which clears out all write protection value and you can use your pen drive.

3. Formatting Pen Drive

When your pen drive is write protected then you can’t format it directly from your computer. For this you should follow the below steps so that you can properly format your pen drive and remove write protection. For this Go To Control Panel>>>Administrative Tools>>>Computer Management>>>Disc Management from the left hand column.

Now right click on your Pen Drive and select Format, confirm the message box and then your pen drive will be formatted. Most of the time this method works when your pen drive has a different format of FAT.

These are the steps which will help you to remove write protection from your pen drive. You should try all these methods One By One because sometimes a specific method may not work for you. But I am sure that you will get your problem solved by using the first method.

The reason is that in first method you will edit the registry file and set the write protection value to zero.
